What to do When Nothing is Working Out (With steps You Can Take Today!)

We've all been there. Nothing is working. Your health is on the fritz, you're not working out and you feel sluggish, every relationship has some kind of tension, work sucks and so does everything else.

So, what do you do?

I'm going to be sharing with you a few ways to get out of this very stuck place. It's pretty simple, but not always easy. The one thing I can say is that it is life changing and you will not regret it!

Reframing - Why is this happening for me and not to me?

Did you ever get stuck in one of those cycles where nothing is working out? You think things can’t get worse and then they do, and again, over and over?

We’ve all been there, right?

So, what do you do to get out of this horrific cycle? How do you respond and not react to it?

One of the most powerful shifts I’ve made in my life was when I learned to ask myself a question whenever I was in this situation.

It’s so simple but it’s hard to bounce out of the old mindset into the new.

Old mindset: OMG Why is this happening to me?

New Mindset: Okay, deep breath, why is this happening for me? <<Powerful Question, Right Here<<

  • What am I supposed to learn?
  • Why am I being redirected in my life and how can this help me, what can I learn?

Take a moment and maybe write out a list bullet point style of all the positive things that might come from your situation.

If this is too much of a stretch, do what I call a test run. Think of a situation from the past that you got through and survived. Now write down all of the things you learned from it and something good that happened because of it. This exercise is easier to do in hindsight.

Another way to do this if you're having trouble is to think of a friend with a big problem, they're really struggling right now. What can they learn from their situation? What good will come out of it?

Like I said reframing is simple, but not always easy.

When we are in a rut, or we believe things aren’t working out for us it's almost always because we are out of alignment with ourselves and what we really want to do in our lives.

This doesn’t mean that we should all be on the beach 24/7 not working and relaxing all day, although yes please, that sounds good to me. It's not all or nothing.

It usually just means some things in your life are off and maybe you need to tune in, take a moment and look at how you spend your time.

Are you doing ANYTHING you want to be doing? Are you taking some time for yourself? Are you having any fun?

We all need to feed and soothe our souls daily in some way shape or form. We need this just to continue on in our lives with some enthusiasm, joy, and peace.

What's life for otherwise? Good question, right?

So, here's a journaling exercise to play with.

For a whole day, write down everything you're doing, bullet-point style. After the day is done, go back and circle everything that brought you joy, fun, feelings of content. Now, if there was not too much in there then you make a list of things you love. From the simplest, like watching the sunrise, to something a little harder to reach, like traveling to Italy.

Then ask yourself the question, how can I start adding more of what I love into my day?

This could look like:

  • Waking up early to see the sunrise
  • A walk in nature
  • Lunch with a friend
  • Walking your dog
  • Reading a few pages of your favorite book
  • Spending some time being creative.

So, the next time you feel like nothing is going right in your life, start to investigate, reframe and ask yourself these powerful questions and then the most important thing is making the shifts. Actually, start to make small little shifts, one at a time. Baby steps are so powerful!

To change your experience, you have to change your behavior. Sometimes this can be hard, but not impossible.

You might ask yourself, sure but how do I do this?

Well, if you’re at a loss as to how to get started just do some small shifts like these:

  • Drive a different way to work/grocery store/friend's house.
  • Change a small part of your morning routine like no TV, no Computer, no social media.
  • If you don’t usually get outside during the day, then spend 5-10 minutes outside.

These may seem silly or too simple to change anything but what it does is start the shift. It bounces you out of that rut.

Another thing you can do is make a list of 10 things you can do daily that will be a small sift from the normal day-to-day. Do this daily!!

These are just some quick easy steps to help you snap yourself out of that bad pattern you're in.

Apply these weekly self-care power moves to help you thrive in your daily life.

Remember if you want the changes, you have to do the work.
