How To Get Unstuck Using Baby Steps
So, you’re feeling stuck. We all end up here at different times in our lives and sometimes it can be brief but sometimes, it can feel like forever!
Now, there are two ways you might feel. One might be that you are completely discontent, uninspired, in need of a change but you're not sure what. The other is you’re comfortable where you’re at and it feels pretty good, but you feel something new brewing. You don’t know what it is, but you feel it coming and you’re not sure how to move forward to stir up the change needed.
Whatever camp you're in, it can be very frustrating when you just don’t know what to do to move forward. When we are in our comfort zone but at the same time know that a change is needed in order for us to grow and expand, it can feel overwhelming. Anything new can seem so far-fetched or it can seem like an enormous amount of work and both of these situations can make you become frozen in place.
Today I want to talk about how you can start to move forward and get unstuck, create the change needed, and then create more momentum and inspiration. When was the last time you felt inspired?
The first step is to acknowledge that you're stuck. Admit to yourself that things feel stale in your life, and you want more. This is always the first step, awareness. You see, we can spend a lot of time convincing ourselves that we should be happy, things are okay or good. You can also say to yourself, "What is wrong with you? You should be happy, look at so and so, now they should be the ones unhappy."
This is you trying to keep yourself safe and comfy in the zone of discontent.
Change is scary, and anytime we start to move toward anything new and scary our brain says, “Whoa, wait a minute here, is this safe? I don’t think so.” Stop!
It’s always going to be a bit uncomfortable to get out of your comfort zone, also known as a rut, and start to get unstuck in your life and create momentum.
Then we need to decide what we want. I know a lot of you will say, I don’t know what I want. So, this is where I’ll tell you to shoot for the way I want to feel. Now, if you don’t know how you want to feel then decide how you don’t want to feel and then do the opposite. Most of us are really good at knowing what we don’t want.
I talk more about this in one of my recent episodes of the Soul Aligned Self Care Podcast. You can listen here: Getting Unstuck & Creating Momentum in your life
I’ve really been focused on this topic right now because, you’ve guessed it, I’m at one of these turning points in my life where I know I need change and need to expand and move forward.
All of these things I’m talking about are things I’m implementing right now in my own life.
So, to expand on this podcast episode that I referenced above, I want to talk about the next thing we need to do and that is come up with a bunch of baby-micro steps to help you get unstuck and start moving us toward one of our goals or feelings.
You see when we take small steps that are quick and easy to achieve something cool happens. We have success, and success is motivating, and it makes us want to keep going and move forward.
When the steps are too big and it takes us too long to have a win, motivation runs out and we are less likely to keep moving forward or to move at all.
This was something that was noted in an article I read in Harvard Business Review that studied what makes people and organizations successfully move forward.
"Minor Milestones
When we think about progress, we often imagine how good it feels to achieve a long-term goal or experience a major breakthrough. These big wins are great—but they are relatively rare. The good news is that even small wins can boost inner work life tremendously. Many of the progress events our research participants reported represented only minor steps forward.”
It’s definitely a good read especially if you feel stuck right now!
I myself have been working on coming up with a bunch of things to add to my days that are going to bring about small wins and changes in my mood. I’m shooting for having more fun and being happy.
Using myself as an example, I’ll share with you some of the things I’ve been doing to add more fun to my everyday life.
Obviously, these things might not work for everyone, but they make me happy.
When I’m happier, my life feels lighter, and this motivates me in my work life and personal relationships. This inspires my creativity to create new opportunities I might want to try.
As you can see these small steps work.
As another example, this inspiration helped me feel positive about reaching out to different influencers to help promote my new Self Care/Skin Care business, Soul Aligned Infusions.
As soon as you point yourself in a direction, it’s amazing how many new things are drawn into your space.
This begins the process of getting unstuck in your life and creating momentum and let’s not forget, happiness.
I hope this was helpful for you if you’ve been in a rut and looking for a way to get unstuck. I hope this creates the fun, inspiration, and momentum you need.
If you need more support in this area, I have a bunch of different ways you can work with me right now at many different investment points that are so doable. The best way to start is just set up a free chat session with me RIGHT HERE and I’ll point you in the right direction.
