On Monday for the self-care practice,
I talked about how you should be mindful
about the energy that you allow
to touch your life every single day.
Now, some things we have no control over,
but there are a lot of things that we do.
And so for today's podcast,
I wanna go a little bit deeper into that
to explain exactly what I'm talking about
and how powerful it could be for you.
How much you can reduce your stress, your anxiety,
your overwhelm, and your burnout.
Let's get into it.
You're listening to the Soul Online Self-Care Podcast.
I'm your host, Tina Stinson,
and I had a stroke at the age of 39
from stress and burnout that shook my world.
Now I'm laying it all out.
The deep-level self-care practices and mindset shifts
that I needed that kept me healthy, balanced, and thriving.
Join me in this intimate space
as we explore healing, resilience,
and a soul's journey to alignment.
This is where real conversations
about deep-level self-care happen.
Let's get into it.
Hello friends and welcome back
to the Soul Online Self-Care Podcast.
I'm your host, Tina Stinson,
and I wanna thank you for hanging out with me today
in this space.
And today I'm kind of extending what I talked about
on Monday for the self-care practice of the week
and I'm going deeper into it
'cause I just felt like it needed more of an explanation
and I really, really enjoy doing this type of work.
I call it decluttering,
and it's not the decluttering you think.
It's not about cleaning out your cabinets,
although I love doing that kind of stuff.
This is about kind of decluttering your environment
in order to have a little bit of control
over how it affects your energy.
So it's about protecting your energy space
and I call it creating alignment with your energy space.
So I wasn't gonna talk about it this week
because I never really know what I'm gonna talk about
on the podcast regardless of what it may seem like.
I just don't plan out the solo episodes.
It's kind of whatever comes up
and I usually, whatever I talk about on the blog
is what I talk about on the podcast.
I usually just go a little bit deeper into it.
So I, but I feel like this topic is so important
because there's so much over stimulation all around us,
like all the media, the people,
the things that we have to deal with on a daily basis.
And we also expose to a lot of like negativity right now,
especially if you're a person that watches the news,
which I'm not and I will go deeper into that.
But I feel like we're all kind of a little bit over stressed
we're at a state of overwhelm
or maybe you're gonna state a bird out.
And so this can really help.
You know, all these little shifts
that I'm gonna suggest that you make today
will help you profoundly.
All those little steps that we take,
you know, end up adding up
and making a big difference in our lives.
So we always need to check in with ourselves
and see how we feel in that moment, right?
And then decide what we want to experience
as far as the energy we need to experience
and then curate that for ourselves.
And like I said, we don't always have complete control
over everything that comes into our life,
but we can control a large portion of it.
As an example, if I'm feeling like super stressed
or even like a little bit anxious,
it might not be the perfect day
to watch a thriller movie that night
if I want to sleep well or listen to gangster rap, right?
We, like I said, we don't have control
over all the things that we're exposed to,
but we can curate the things
that we do have control over
and make it more pleasant for ourselves
and put ourselves into a state of flow.
So some of the things that we do have control over,
now this is not black and white,
so don't come at me. (laughs)
We never have complete control over anything,
you know, that's false.
But these are some of the things that we can really,
as I said, curate in order to, you know,
experience more joy, more relaxation, more peace, right?
More fun.
TV and media, well it's kind of the same thing,
I guess you could say, movies, the news, music,
social media, email, and some of the people and environments
and that we put ourselves into in our lives.
We get to decide how to experience these things,
removing the friction and the negativity,
creating more space by doing that.
And then sometimes leaving that space
because we wanna have space for new things
to come into our life, right?
But sometimes you could also add things in
that just add joy to our lives.
And then look what you did,
you changed something from maybe stressful
or taxing to something happy.
The TV and movies we watch have a huge effect on our energy
and that includes the news, but I'll get to that too.
Why do you think they call it programming?
You know, why do you think they call a TV channel, a channel?
Think about the words that they use.
Pay attention to how you feel in that moment
and decide which right for you.
So like as I said, if you're feeling stressed,
maybe you could choose like a happy, you know,
feel good movie or show or maybe no TV at all, right?
You need, if you need some fun and joy, maybe, you know,
also that feel good movie or a comedy of some sort
could be really fun.
Oh my God, I'm losing my voice a little bit.
The news is a whole different story and in my opinion,
like as I said, this is my opinion,
there are no positives to watch in the news.
I can't see any of them.
All of the outlets are owned by the same huge corporation
even though they talk about different things.
The messages are different on different news networks,
but it's the same person that owns them
and the message almost always though
is some kind of fear or doom.
And it's the same thing every day.
They're talking about the same thing over and over.
Yes, sometimes news stuff happens,
but if something new doesn't come in,
they go back to the same old fear and doom prescription
that they, or I should say channeling
that they want to program you with.
I don't know about you, but I don't need
that kind of programming.
You know, I have enough of that in my life
and I don't need any extra.
So try not watching the news for a week
and see how much better you feel.
Trust me, just give it a try.
You're not going to mix, miss anything.
My life is so much better since I stopped watching the news.
It's been years now and I suggest you do the same,
especially if your nervous system is already stressed.
And right now, I would say, I don't know, maybe this is high,
but I think that's about 90% of the population right now.
You know, when it comes to music,
I feel there's almost always a time and space
for all types of music.
Music is my favorite, oh God,
it's like one of my favorite things.
The key once again is to check in with your body
and see what you need.
Do you need to relax?
Do you need to energize what do you need?
I think a music like a prescription, I really do,
because you can create so many things in your life with it.
And you could be so intentional.
There's a cure for almost any every ailment from music.
Also, music is a powerful anchor.
It can automatically bring you back to a place in time,
whether it's good or bad, it brings you back there.
At least that's what I experience.
And so music always brings me back to a time period
and it was either good or bad or neutral, it could be anything.
Like, for example, after I had my stroke,
I used to go consistently to have like brains gants
and stuff like that.
And one day I was feeling really good.
It was like three or four years after my stroke.
And because what happened when I had the stroke,
if you're unfamiliar with that story,
is I had a vertebral dissection,
which is a tear and an artery, right?
And so it wasn't like a typical stroke.
And so, and it healed closed, that artery healed closed, right?
So I had one vertebral artery going to my brain,
and the other one was completely blocked.
And I was fine.
I was good like that.
So one day I was running around the neighborhood
that I lived in, and I felt super dizzy.
Like it felt just like I was having my stroke again.
I almost fell on my face.
You know how when you're running, and you're just trying
to catch yourself and you're slamming your feet on the ground,
and you know you're going to fall on your face.
Well, I just about did, but I caught myself,
and I went home.
I talked to on the phone with a friend and make sure I was okay,
and I walked home, called my neurologist,
and he had me come in for an emergency NGO
to see what was going on.
And so when they took me in the,
I don't know if you would call that an operating room,
it's not really an operation,
but you know how those rooms are?
They're so echoey, you know, super echoey.
And they gave me some medicine to relax me
because I was really anxious as you can imagine.
I was scared.
I didn't really want to go through that experience again,
and so I was really scared.
And so I was all drugged up.
Yeah, I was happy.
And so I go into the room and girl on fires on the,
Alicia Keys, that song is on, and I just start singing it, right?
So whenever I hear that song, and I probably didn't sound good,
but I thought I sounded good
because I was just having a really good time.
And it was echoing.
It's a really good place to sing.
I don't know, maybe someone can confirm that.
At least for me in that moment, it was.
So anyway, any time I hear that song,
it brings me back to that moment,
and it ended up being really good news.
What happened was the artery that healed closed,
had opened and been working normally.
So something must have opened, and that's what I felt.
And so really good news, and so that song is like,
brings me back to a good place in time,
and it makes me laugh always,
'cause I think of myself singing,
and I think of the people that had to deal with me
when I was like that, and it must have been funny, I'm sure.
And I've seen plenty of things like that.
Also, as another example, when I listen to Sevene's music,
it makes me feel happy and safe, and I'm not sure why,
but maybe it's the time period,
I was a young girl at that time,
and this is what I feel.
So when I need to start my day,
and with feel good emotions,
I put on a Sevene's playlist,
and just start my morning that way.
Sometimes if I'm super anxious,
I'll put on some relaxing type meditation music,
but you can really kind of like, almost,
like you're living your life,
and the music you listen to is,
that's the soundtrack to your movie, right?
So curate it in order to almost like control the narrative,
control what you experience,
control what you wanna feel.
And I think music is so powerful that way.
You have, there's so many different types of music,
I believe there's a place for every type of music,
and I would encourage you to start thinking of it this way,
because if you wanna experience happy, good emotions,
if you wanna feel energized,
and I'm sure you do this to a certain degree already,
you know, like before you work out,
or if you're gonna go and run like me,
you have like energized music.
You're not gonna like listen to like, slow, relaxing music.
So it's about asking yourself what works for you.
All right, moving on to like emails.
Holy shit, boy do I get a lot.
I, you know, I loved all of them.
Like I sign up for all these different emails,
maybe other coaches, I sign up for their emails.
Maybe I purchase something at a store,
and I get their emails, you know, whatever.
At some point I wanted to be on that email list.
Most of the time, sometimes you get those spam things
that you're like, how did I get an email from this person?
Why are you in my inbox?
It's almost like somebody broke down your front door
and they came into your house and not being invited.
That's what I feel like when someone's in my inbox,
and I'm like, I didn't sign up for that shit.
So anyway, you know, at that time,
it might have been good for you,
but maybe you're sick of it,
or maybe they just send too many emails, whatever it might be.
It's, you know, as we learn and grow,
make sure you go through your email list
and regularly unsubscribe from the things
that no longer serve you.
And you know, it's not like, you know, you're upsetting
that person or hurting their feelings.
As a matter of fact, a lot of people that have email lists
have to pay to have a certain amount of people
on those email lists.
And if you're not into them,
they don't want to be paying to send you emails
that you're just gonna delete.
So they'd be grateful for you to clean out their,
clean out their email list, right?
So, and at some point, if you want to sign back up,
you can, right?
Also remove old folders and stuff like that,
like clean it all out.
You can even go into your phone and remove old contacts, you know?
This is all about cleaning up all that crap, you know?
When I retired from real estate and moved into coaching,
after about three years,
'cause you're supposed to keep your records for three years,
I ended up like getting rid of all the emails,
all the email contacts, all the folders.
And I had so many because anytime I worked with a client,
or even if it was just a prospective client
that maybe called on one of my signs or something like that,
I put them in as a contact.
And I saved it that way so that if they called me again,
I knew exactly who it was,
and I could, you know, address them by their name, you know?
So I had like things like Bob
that called on Taylor Avenue as a contact at my phone, right?
So I went through all my contacts and I,
it was really kind of healing for me because it created space
for my new business.
It wasn't, I didn't open my phone up and see all these things
in my phone anymore.
That part of my life was over and I was starting a new life, right?
So it's about clearing out that old space,
that old stuff to create that space that I talked about.
So you can create that vacuum for new things,
like you have to have space for new things
to come into your life.
So if you're feeling stuck or stagnant in any way,
this works magic.
So it creates space and flow.
It curates the things that are of interest for you
at that time period and, you know,
it makes it easier for you to read the important emails
that are good for you in that time period
and you don't have to like clean out all the clutter
to find all the good stuff in there, you know what I'm saying?
So it's, you know, sometimes I miss emails
important emails because of all the spam messages I get, right?
And so that pisses me off.
And so I feel like that's my responsibility.
I have to go in there.
I have to clean it out so that all the important stuff
is right front and center.
It removes that friction I talked about.
So it reduces any kind of stress and anxiety
that I'm gonna miss something
and all these little tiny shifts that you make
make a huge difference in your energy and your body.
Now next is a big one, social media.
Now if you're like me, you have a love, hate relationship
with social media.
I love all the connection I get from it.
I've met some really, really good friends on social media.
I have been involved in different groups
like say on Facebook or something like that
that I love, right?
But I hate Facebook.
I hate Facebook with a passion, but I love some
of the groups I'm in, but so it's like, ah, you know,
like, ah, like it's so frustrating.
Also you're exposed to a lot of negativity.
Some social media you can kind of, as I said,
with like the music, you can kind of curate your feed,
like TikTok.
I feel like TikTok, you can easily curate a feed
and I'll tell you why I believe that.
Because I recently started another TikTok account
called South Metal Farm.
If you are interesting in gardening or farming,
definitely follow me over there.
I mean, it's brand new.
I have like two posts or something like that.
And I'm showing you how I go about with my farming
and how that integrates into my life
and how I'm learning and I don't know
what the hell I'm doing.
And so if that's you and you wanna follow me,
follow me at South Metal Farm.
But anyway, my daughter was like giving me some pointers
about social media because, you know, I kind of,
I really don't know what I'm doing most of the time.
And she said when you go on there,
if you wanna gain followers, like follow people
that are doing the same things as you
and comment on their posts and they'll start following you
and then it'll draw more people to your account,
blah, blah, blah, blah, whatever.
And so on and so on.
So I did that.
And what it created was this beautiful space
that I can go to on TikTok.
And all I get is gardening, home-steading,
farming, feed, that's it.
That's all I see because that's who I follow
and that's who I comment on and like, that's it.
So it's so nice.
I don't see anything else.
And actually there's not a lot of ads and farm TikTok.
So really, I really love that.
So look at the people in your feed
and then unfollow the people that trigger anything negative.
It doesn't always mean that that person is a bad person.
Just maybe not for you in that moment.
And this can change at some point, you know,
at some point they might be perfect for you
because they change in their lives also.
And this is just more about, you know,
not hurting anyone's feelings.
You don't have to block them or anything like that.
You can just unfollow and you won't see
their stuff anymore.
It's about curating all of these topics that you're interested in
and bringing them into the forefront.
You know, like, if you're like me and you don't like Facebook,
like I'll go to Facebook and I'll go straight to groups
and just focus on the groups.
I don't like to scroll.
TikTok, I will scroll through,
but in Instagram, I'll scroll through
but I do not like Facebook.
I just go into the groups, maybe focus on some of my good friends.
That's about it.
When we start to create space in these areas, you know,
by unfollowing, blocking, whatever you need to do,
and we move any friction, anything that makes us feel icky,
we create time for ourselves and we create more flow in our life, right?
We create peace.
This reduces stress, anxiety, overwhelmed burnout.
And that is the key here.
All these little, all these little things that I'm talking about,
they may seem so small, but I'm telling you, do the work.
And it's not really hard work.
Like you can, like when you're sitting
and you're not doing anything, like when you're going to pick the kids up at school
or when you're at a doctor's office waiting for your appointment
or when you're on hold for your bank,
which could take like an hour sometimes, right?
These are times where I scroll through my phone,
I unsubscribe from emails,
I unfollow people on social media channels.
It's, you know, you don't have to like sit down and put time aside for this specifically.
You could do it on those times when you're stuck in some kind of a stagnant energy,
like that, it's nothing worse than like being on hold for an hour
or like sitting at the doctor's office when they're all behind, right?
So these are the perfect times to squeeze in these little things
that you could do to create that space in your life.
When, when I got divorced, I unfollowed and blocked some of my former husband's family.
It was like, I lifted this huge weight off of my back
because I wasn't being to expose to something that in my body was perceived as negative,
it didn't feel good.
That wasn't a part of my life anymore.
So I was just amazed, amazed.
So if you're thinking about doing this, like just do it, do it.
Like you know, even like if you like these people, you don't have to block them.
You could just unfollow so you're not seeing their feed.
I was just, I was absolutely dumbfounded by how much this made a change in the energy in my body.
It felt so freaking good.
So think about the shift that you can make when you look at all these different areas
and make all these small shifts, like the one I did above or some of the ones I talked about.
And think about the time that you'll save.
Think about the space that you can create in your life.
Right?
This is about creating space for better things and the peace and the joy that you can bring
into your life.
Right?
When we have clutter, it makes us feel stuck.
When we remove this friction, we create flow and the space for energy to move within our
lives.
So of course, as always, I always recommend that you do this in a journal exercise because
when you write stuff down, it's almost like you're tapping into your subconscious mind and
imprinting it and you're also getting feedback from your subconscious.
So it's like almost like this little bit of a superpower that you get to talk to your
higher self.
So put the pen to the paper and make a list of all the things within these areas that you
can shift.
Think of all the things that you can work on.
Then go through them one by one and start to curate a space where you can feel at ease
and at peace.
And check off the list one by one because we all know how good it feels to check things
off and make notes.
I want you to keep notes of how good it feels, good it feels to have some of that weight
lifted off your back.
You know, like unfollowing the ex-boyfriend or the ex-girlfriend so you don't see their feed
when they start dating again and then feel bad about yourself.
Right?
You don't need to see that anymore.
Like unless you're good friends with them for some reason, which sometimes might be the
case.
I'm definitely been friends with my exes before.
But it's like you're cutting the cord, you know what I mean?
You could feel that energy cord being cut.
It's freeing and it feels like you have more flow in your life when you do these things.
I'm not kidding too.
When you do these things, I want you to reach out to me.
Like reach out to me on social media.
Wherever you, you know, however, some of you actually have, you know, ways to connect
with me already.
Some of you don't, but you can always find me on Instagram @teanestensencoach.
Definitely, and there's also @SoulAlignSelfCare.
Definitely go there because I haven't been working on that social media channel for the
podcast.
And I don't have many followers over there.
So definitely follow me over there.
@SoulAlignSelfCare and message me over there.
And I want to hear, and I really do want to hear from you.
I want to hear how this work has made you feel better.
And I want to know exactly how you feel.
I love hearing from you guys.
I love connecting with you guys.
That's why I have a social media for the @SoulAlignSelfCare.
So if you need any more guidance in this area and you want one-on-one support and accountability,
I have something new that I just started doing.
It's a really amazing way to work with me.
And it's called the @SoulAlignSelfCare Purpose Blueprint.
And it's a way to go from stress and overwhelm and burnout to flow and calm in your life.
And it's also a way to work with me without committing to a long term contract like three
or six months package.
It's kind of like a test run to see if we're a good fit.
And also, it's a super powerful way to get started and start putting yourself first so
that you can show up as the best version of yourself.
And if you're interested in the blueprint, just it'll be in the show notes.
But I enjoyed being here with you today.
And I hope this was really helpful to you.
And like I said, reach out on the Instagram and go follow the @SoulAlignSelfCare podcast.
That account just needs help, right?
I'm also @Tenestintencouche.
You can follow both accounts.
I share more personal stuff on @Tenestintencouche.
The podcast is pretty much strictly just for the podcast, but I would love for you to message
me in either one of those places.
And until next week, be sure to add some deep-level self-care into your life every day.
I love you.
Talk to you soon.
Did you guys know that the @SoulAlignSelfCare podcast has a community?
