Get Unstuck Series - Finding Your “WHY” And Why It’s Important

Continuing on with the Get Unstuck Series I want to add to the creation of your big dreams and goals.

You see I believe that you can have greater success and also faster success by really digging deep and learning what your “WHY” is.

Listen to the podcast version of this blog post >>HERE<<

So what is your “WHY”?

Your “WHY” is the reason this big goal or dream is important to you.

When you set a big dream or goal that might seem hard, heck, it might seem impossible, you need to know why it’s important to you in order to stay in it for the long haul.

You see, sometimes you need to take many small steps to reach a big goal and it can get hard sometimes, challenging, and you may even have some setbacks.

You can sometimes get to a point where you feel defeated, almost like you’ll never get there.

This is where your ”WHY” comes into play.

You need to turn to your “WHY” to remember why this goal is so important to you, and what is it that makes you want to keep going.

When we get caught up in the dong we can sometimes forget the deep-down reason for wanting to chive this in the first place.

Then, when you remind yourself, you remember, you feel the feelings of the achievement, then you will gain that momentum needed, that inspiration!

So how do we go about finding out our “WHY”?

I do have a method I use with my clients and myself and I would love to share it. All you have to do is ask yourself a few questions. Actually, it’s kinda the same question, over and over.

The best way to show you is to use an example.

Let’s give this a whirl!

Let’s say the goal was to go back to school to finish your degree.

Then I asked you:

Why is this important to you?

You: I would like to get a better job and make more money.

Me: Why is that important to you?

You: Because if I make more money I’ll be able to pay my bills and maybe have some money left over.

Me: Why is that important to you?

You: Because if I can pay my bills I’ll have less stress, I’ll be happier and if I have some money left over, I can take better care of my family and also have some fun with them.

Me: Why is this important to you?

You: When I’m stressed out I can be cranky with my family when money is tight it's hard to do anything with my family and that's also not fun, I feel trapped. I don’t want to be cranky with the people I love.

Me: Why is this important to you?

You: I want to be able to care for my family, I want them to not feel stressed. I want them to feel loved and cared for.

Me: Why is this important to you?

You: I want them to be in a better place than I was growing up. I want to be able to give them more.

Me: Why is this important to you?

You: Because I want them to feel free, I want them to have all options, I want all of us to be free.

Ok, now can you see how powerful this exercise is?

The first answer before went deep was, ” I would like to get a better job and make more money.”

After we did the Why Deep Dive, the answer was, “ I want them to feel free, I want them to have all options, I want all of us to be free.

Which one of these answers will give you the reminder you need when the going gets rough? Which one is more powerful and holds more true feelings and emotions?

The second one for sure!

Another thing this exercise will do is ween out the goals and dreams that are imposters.

What do I mean by imposter you ask?

Sometimes when we are setting big goals and dreams we choose them because of what would make someone else happy. Like our partners, kids' parents, and society.

We sometimes don’t realize this until we do this exercise and then we have an epiphany!

This dream is an imposter! This is not my dream because it’s just not that important to you and you will struggle with a “WHY” for it.

The good thing is, it saves you from wasting time on someone else's dream.

Whew, close one, right?

So whenever you write out any big dream or goal, the next step is to write your “WHY”.

This way you have a motivator and you waste no time!

I hope you enjoyed this powerful exercise and I would love to hear what your “WHY” is.
